Like many historic spaces, Breathing Room has a mix of accessible and inaccessible features. Our 2nd-floor space is accessible by elevator, however there is a small 3-inch step up to the front door of the building. Our all-gender bathroom does not have a designated handicap stall. If you have concerns about your ability to access the space, please email me to discuss your needs and the accommodations that I can arrange for you.
One reason I love doing Thai massage is that the mat is long and wide enough for people of all body sizes, and I can work with clients in the positions that are most comfortable for them (including side-lying, reclined, and seated). One drawback of working on the floor, however, is that not everyone can easily get up and down from the floor. Please email me if you have any concerns about your physical comfort during your massage (especially if there are positions that are not comfortable for you) or if you are unable to get up and down from the floor without assistance. I will be happy to find a solution that works for you!
Accessibility is about more than just the physical spaces that people participate in; it is also about what is financially available. For many, massage might be necessary for management of chronic conditions, but it is priced as a luxury. While I do not offer discounts at Breathing Room, I have some options for making my work more financially accessible. First, I am able to accept HSA/FSA payments. Additionally, I have a second location where I am able to offer sliding-scale appointments (see the Student Appointment section for more information). Finally, I offer partner Thai massage classes and can train a loved one in basic massage techniques focused on your needs.
If you have a chronic condition and massage is necessary to manage it but is out of reach financially, please get in touch. I am happy to discuss what options might be most suitable for your needs, resources, and budget.
